Custom closet warranty in Orlando: lifetime on the cabinetry, lifetime on the workmanship
Every closet company says “lifetime warranty.” This page tells you whose warranty it is, what each one covers, what they leave out, and how to compare one against another before you sign a proposal.
A custom closet has two things that can fail: the cabinetry and the way it was installed. The cabinetry we install is made by Organizers Direct Industries and carries ODI’s lifetime warranty. The workmanship carries ours, also for life. Here’s how both work, in the order you’ll actually need them.

Two lifetime warranties, one phone number
Most closet warranties blur the manufacturer and the installer into one promise. We keep them separate on purpose: the factory covers the parts, we cover the work, and you always know who’s responsible for what.
The cabinetry: ODI’s lifetime warranty
Every panel, shelf, and drawer box we install is manufactured by Organizers Direct Industries (ODI), and Closets Orlando is an authorized ODI dealer. ODI warrants its cabinetry against defects in materials and workmanship for as long as you own it. If a component fails under normal use, ODI replaces the part at no cost. Closets Orlando files the claim for you.
“Organizers Direct Industries provides a Lifetime Warranty on all cabinetry. If a cabinetry product ever fails during normal use, we replace it free of charge. Period.”
The workmanship: Closets Orlando’s lifetime warranty
Whether your closet is installed by our in-house team or by one of the installers we work with, Closets Orlando stands behind the workmanship for as long as you own the system. That means anchoring, leveling, alignment, and hardware adjustment. If something was installed wrong, we come back and fix it at no charge, whether it shows up in month one or year nine.
What’s covered
- Panels, shelves, and drawer boxes that delaminate, warp, or crack under normal use
- Doors and drawer fronts with a manufacturing defect in the panel or finish
- ODI-supplied drawer slides and hinges that fail under normal use
- Edge banding that lifts or peels on ODI cabinetry
- Shelves, rods, and towers that loosen from the wall because of how they were anchored
- Doors and drawer fronts that fall out of alignment because of how they were installed
- Parts and labor, at no cost, for as long as you own the system
What’s not covered
- Damage from water leaks, flooding, or fire
- Shelves loaded past their rated weight, or used as a step
- Scratches, dents, and stains from everyday use, pets, or abrasive cleaners
- Systems moved, modified, or reinstalled by anyone other than Closets Orlando
- Products made by other manufacturers, like lighting, mirrors, and wall-bed mechanisms. Those carry the maker’s own warranty
- Commercial or rental-property use
Both warranties apply to the original purchaser, at the address where the system was installed, for as long as you own it, and require the project to be paid in full.
What “lifetime” really means, and what it doesn’t
“Lifetime” is the easiest word in this industry to say and the hardest to pin down. On ODI cabinetry it means exactly what ODI says: as long as you own it, a defective part gets replaced. That is a real promise from a manufacturer that’s been building closet systems since 1995.
It does not mean the closet will never age. Soft-close drawer slides are rated for roughly 20,000 open-and-close cycles, which works out to about ten years in a busy master closet. After that, a slide that gets tired isn’t defective. It’s worn. No closet company covers wear, and any that says it does hasn’t read its own fine print. What we do instead is use full-extension steel slides from the start, so “tired” arrives late.
Finish fades slightly with a decade of sun and closet light. Edge banding that was applied right stays put. A panel that was built right doesn’t warp. Those are the things a lifetime warranty exists for, and those are the things ours covers.
Three things we put in writing, so you don’t have to take our word for it
Most closet companies in Orlando say “lifetime warranty” and hand you the details at the consultation. The most common complaint about closet warranties, on record with the Better Business Bureau, is being told the damage was “misuse” and then being billed for the visit. So here is what we commit to, on this page, before you sign anything.
A valid claim costs you nothing
Parts and labor. If the cabinetry failed under normal use or the installation was wrong, you don’t pay for the part, the trip, or the time.
“Misuse” is a finding, not a reflex
If we believe something was overloaded or altered, we show you what we found and why, in writing, before we quote a repair. You can push back, and we’ll listen.
This page is the warranty
What you read here is what you get. If a designer or installer tells you something different, the page wins. Print it and staple it to your proposal.
What actually fails in a Florida closet
After 600+ installs across Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Lake counties, we can tell you what goes wrong. It’s almost never the cabinet. It’s humidity, weight, and anchoring, in that order.
Humidity is why we specify edge banding rated for Florida and why we don’t use raw particleboard anywhere you can see or touch. A sealed panel doesn’t care that it’s August. Weight is why every shelf has a rating and every drawer slide is steel, not plastic. Anchoring is why our installers find the studs instead of trusting drywall anchors. The builder-grade wire shelving in most new Orange and Osceola County homes hangs from anchors, and that’s exactly why it ends up on the floor.
Build for those three things and a closet rarely needs its warranty. That’s the goal. The warranty is for the rare case, not the plan.
How to compare closet warranties before you sign
Two proposals can both say “lifetime warranty” and mean very different things. Ask every company these six questions. Write the answers on the proposal.
Who is the manufacturer, and is the warranty theirs or yours?
If the installer also builds the boxes, the warranty lives and dies with that one company. If a manufacturer like ODI backs the cabinetry, the parts warranty survives even if the local dealer changes hands.
Is the workmanship covered, and for how long?
Many “lifetime” warranties cover materials only. Ask specifically about anchoring, leveling, and alignment, and get the duration in writing, not a “yes.”
Are labor and service calls included, or just the part?
Some warranties ship you a replacement panel and leave you to install it. Ask who comes out and what it costs.
What counts as “normal wear”?
Get a plain answer about drawer slides, hinges, and finish after ten years. If they say nothing wears, be skeptical.
Is it transferable if I sell the house?
Most aren’t, including ours. Some companies offer a transferable option for a fee. Decide if that matters to you before you compare price.
Is the full warranty in writing before you sign?
Several Orlando companies say “details at your consultation.” Ask for the document first. If the salesperson’s version and the paper ever differ, the paper wins, so read the paper.

We fix it or file the claim
Workmanship issues we fix at no charge. Cabinetry defects go to ODI under its lifetime warranty; we file the claim on your behalf and install the replacement part when it arrives.
Keep your original proposal. It has your system spec and install date, which we’ll ask for.
Five habits that keep a closet out of warranty
- Keep the house under 60% relative humidity. Central air does it on its own; a closet with its own door and no vent may need it left open in summer.
- Respect the shelf rating. A 36-inch melamine shelf carries about 50 pounds evenly spread. Stack the shoe boxes, not the dumbbells.
- Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap. No bleach, no abrasive pads, no “magic” erasers on the finish.
- Don’t hang from the rods, and don’t let kids climb the towers. Rods are for clothes; anchors are rated for clothes.
- Call us before you move a system. Reinstalling it yourself is the one thing that voids both warranties.
Custom closet warranty questions, answered
What does a limited lifetime warranty cover on a custom closet?
It covers defects in materials and workmanship in the cabinetry for as long as you own it, with stated exclusions. “Limited” is the legal word for those exclusions: misuse, water damage, third-party products, and systems altered after installation. At Closets Orlando the cabinetry warranty is ODI’s, the manufacturer’s, and our own lifetime warranty covers the workmanship.
Does the warranty cover installation, or only the materials?
Both, and for life. ODI covers the cabinetry. Closets Orlando covers the workmanship, meaning anchoring, leveling, alignment, and hardware adjustment, for as long as you own the system.
Is the warranty transferable if I sell my house?
No. Both warranties apply to the original purchaser only, at the address where the system was installed. A well-built closet still adds value at resale. It just doesn’t carry the paperwork with it.
Does the warranty cover drawer slides and hinges?
ODI-supplied slides and hinges are covered when they fail under normal use. If they drift out of alignment because of how they were installed, that’s workmanship and we fix it at no charge. Ten-year-old slides that are simply worn are not a defect.
What if a shelf comes off the wall?
Call us and send a photo. If it loosened under normal load, that’s workmanship and we re-anchor it at no charge. If it was loaded past its rating, we’ll still fix it, but that repair is billable. We’ll tell you which before we start.
Will you charge me for a warranty visit?
Not for a valid claim. If the cabinetry failed under normal use or the installation was wrong, parts and labor are covered. If the cause turns out to be overloading, water, or an alteration, we tell you before any billable work starts, and you decide.
Does Florida humidity void the warranty?
No. Normal indoor humidity in an air-conditioned home is exactly the environment the cabinetry is built for. What isn’t covered is water damage: a leak, a flood, or a closet that was left closed and unconditioned for months.
Who do I call, Closets Orlando or ODI?
Closets Orlando, always: (689) 259-2722. Workmanship issues we handle directly. Cabinetry defects fall under ODI’s warranty; we file the claim on your behalf and install the replacement part when it arrives.
How long does a warranty repair take?
It depends on the repair. Adjustments and re-anchoring usually happen in a single visit. If a replacement part has to come from ODI, the part ships on ODI’s schedule and we install it when it arrives. We’ll give you a date once the claim is filed.
